Cookies

A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer’s hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added and the cookie helps analyse web traffic or lets you know when you visit a particular site. Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. The web application can tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences.

We use traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps us analyse data about web page traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to customer needs. We only use this information for statistical analysis purposes.

Overall, cookies help us provide you with a better website, by enabling us to monitor which pages you find useful and which you do not. A cookie in no way gives us access to your computer or any information about you, other than the data you choose to share with us. You can choose to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. This may prevent you from taking full advantage of the website.

Mpulse

Every ‘X’ pages you may see a request to something like c.go-mpulse.net this isn’t sinister we use them to sample real time loading speeds as experienced by users around the world. So we can see if someone using a mobile phone to browse the site from Mongolia is getting an acceptable experience in terms of speed and then do something to sort that.

Criteo

We might use Criteo sometimes. They show adverts on other sites to people who drive through the site but don’t buy anything. So you might see an advert that says “Buy shiny Red Transformer at Kapow Toys” on other peoples websites. It seems like they don’t honor ‘do not track’ on other peoples websites, but if you enable tracking protection that blocks them. They collect what products you look at and then aim to show you relevant adverts, then they track if you buy stuff from clicking on one of their adverts.

They record the items looked at, the items placed in basket, the items bought, the order id when the purchase goes through and a hashed version of the users email like ‘b3abe68fecb51895a373f9714eb43b3c’ so they can try and match up with emails address on Facebook and show that person adverts.

Criteo seem to set cookies from the domain names gum.criteo.com and dis.eu.criteo.com. It looks like criteo are causing a bunch of requests to be sent to advertising networks e.g. ads.yahoo.com, I’m guessing so they can identify who to show adverts to, those don’t seem to be setting cookies.

Do not track

We will honor your do not track requests if you have that set in your browser, if you have that set you just should just get functional cookies like what language, currency and those that enable you to login and buy stuff.
